The Outdoor Painter’s Society sponsored a workshop with Bill Davidson in Galveston, Texas recently. Bill started our group off with a short lecture on how to establish values in a painting using mixtures of grays. By adding a light, medium, or dark gray to the chosen color, value is adjusted to fit the message of the subject. The group then met at outdoor locations on Galveston using marshes, surf, and beach buildings as references for plein air paintings. The last day of the workshop, the group viewed everyone’s paintings giving each other constructive remarks. We all had big fun, and Bill is an awesome art teacher with a charismatic delivery.
